Hello my beauties! Today, I have a very special treat for you! Kaitlyn (from isavirtue) has stopped by to give us a little peaksy into her (vintage) jewelry box. Kaitlyn is one die-hard vintage jewelry collector...she has amassed an impressive collection of well over 200 unique vintage pieces (definitely a gal after my own vintage-lovin' heart).
My personal love for vintage jewelry (or just jewelry in general for that matter) is the "story" behind each piece. I am such a sucker for nostalgia and history!
A big "thank you" to Kaitlyn for sharing her jewelry box with us today!
Enjoy!
xx Cat

hello brideblu readers! my name is kaitlyn {from isavirtue}. i am a bit obsessed with vintage jewelry (to date i have 48 bracelets, 52 pairs of earrings, 28 rings and about 100 necklaces give or take) and thought it might be fun to take a virtual tour through my jewelry box and share the history behind a few of my favorite vintage jewelry pieces.
i’m not sure whether my 200+ vintage jewelry collection is abnormal, or whether women all over the world are hoarding jewelry like me. it’s hard to say why women collect jewelry - or so much of it. for me, it is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to express myself. i believe jewelry completes an outfit, and thus completes the image i present to the world.
either way, i love each and every piece. they are like little bits of art, and as with any piece of art they have a history, and a story associated with them. below are some of my favourite pieces and their own unique stories.
this bracelet was given to me on my 24th birthday by a group of friends. i met these women while completing my graduate degree in victoria. they touched my life in unimaginable ways and opened my eyes to all sorts of cultural inspirations which i never knew existed.
this tiffany cuff was given to me by my aunt as a going away gift before i moved across the country. i love this piece for a number of reasons. it goes with everything, it makes me feel edgy, it’s covered in script, and it was a gift from one of the most supportive people in my life.

this necklace is by georg jensen. it is one of the most expensive pieces of jewelry i have ever purchased. i had to put it on layaway to be able to afford it but it was worth every penny. the way it loops through itself and is weighted so precariously to hold itself down is kind of magical!

finally, my favourite vintage pieces. when i was younger and my grandmother was very sick, she sat me down with her jewelry box and told me the history behind every single piece. this gold necklace is from germany and i think of her every time i wear it.
the ring below was given to me recently by my husband’s grandmother. she slipped it onto my finger before we left for the airport on our last visit home. she is 90 years old and it is a ring she purchased in austria when she was quite young. it really made me feel loved by my in laws when she gifted it to me.
i don’t believe jewelry has to be on trend or expensive in order to be special. some of my favourite pieces are little bobbles i have purchased for myself as rewards (just for making it through each day!). cat’s jewelry is special because it has been reworked to create something that maintains an aura of the past, but has been given new life today. it’s all about what your jewelry means to you!
